On 07 July 2000 Brandon Hire revealed it was having talks with an unnamed firm with regard to a possible takeover. The company is thought to be construction and tool hire company Allen which may make a GB[pound] 22mn bid for Brandon, offering 80 pence a share. Rivals have been fighting for business in the equipment rental sector but a merger of the two companies could help them compete better.

UK: KEWILL SHARES GO UP AFTER SWISSLOG NEWS

UK software for e-commerce group, Kewill Systems, has reported an increase in share price of 17% after news that the Swiss logistics software company, Swisslog, announced that it would acquire Kewill's logistics arm for GB[pound] 16.6mn in cash. Swisslog will act as a reseller for Kewill on the e-commerce side of things.

UK: METNOR TO JOIN ASH & LACY BID BATTLE

It has been suggested that UK-based engineering group, Metnor, is considering making an offer in the region of GB[pound] 80mn for Ash & Lacy, the UK-based metals engineering firm currently being eyed by its rival Hill & Smith. However, a Metnor spokesman stated that it was hoping to avoid a hostile offer for the company.
