UK: FEAR OVER FRAUD AND THE INTERNET

UK firms are still ignoring the risks of fraudulent practice via the Internet, which over the past 12 months has impacted 60% of businesses, according to an Ernst & Young report released on 25 May 2000. The Internet's growth means that firms are more open to cross-border scams, with the accountants noting that one third of fraud was perpetrated by management.

Cambrige company, Ncorp, has developed software that should make Internet shopping more fruitful. At present, when the item requested is unavailable, a similar alternative is not always offered, but Ncorp's system, which can be used on all databases that have links between data, can work out relationships without using keywords.

UK: CGU CREATES INTERNET OPERATION

CGU has established bluecycle.com, an Internet auction site which will offer retail products, which have been recovered by insurers and the police. The UK-based composite insurance group hopes that offering items such as used cars and washing machines via the Internet will make them available to a wider array of people.
