UK: NEW RADIO SURGERY FOR TUMOURS
Article Abstract:
A young girl in the UK has become one of the first people to undergo a new type of radio surgery for brain tumours, which may be used to treat one-third of all brain tumours in the future. The precision treatment avoids the side-affects and brain damage associated with conventional treatment, according to doctors at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. However, the new technique is only suitable for benign tumours, as malignant tumours will still have to be treated with traditional radiotherapy due to the cancerous tissue spreading more widely throughout the brain.

UK: ONE IN SEVEN BREAST IMPLANTS HAVE PROBLEMS
Article Abstract:
One in seven women experience problems after breast implant operations. The Department of Health is to publish a booklet for women providing information about the risks attached to each different type of implant available in the UK: silicon gel, saline, hydrogel and polyvinyl pyrolidine solution. The book says saline implants are most prone to rupture or deflation. Hydrogel and PVP are more likely to shrink or enlarge over time but silicone gel was given a clean bill of health.
