UK: MORE MISCONDUCT CHARGES AT BNFL
Article Abstract:
Having already sacked three staff for falsifying data on Mox fuel and widened its probe into senior managers, British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL) has allegedly written to ten staff members telling them they face disciplinary action. According to internal sources five managers will be charged in the coming week and five shopfloor employees have been interviewed. The Sellafield plant's major client Japanese Kansai Electric has withdrawn its Mox orders for the time being, but if it were to cancel the orders completely it might jeopardise the government's decision to partly privatise the plant.

UK: GERMANY ACCUSES BNFL OF LYING
Article Abstract:
British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL) has been accused of lying by the German Government. BNFL is accused of lying about the outcome of a recent meeting with the German Environment Ministry. BNFL made a press statement saying that Germany had agreed to lift its ban on importing reprocessed nuclear fuel from the Sellafield plant in the UK. However, German claims that in no way did the Environment Ministry suggest lifting its import ban that was introduced at the beginning of March 2000. Revelations that BNFL has lied will not do the company any favours or improve its reputation in any way.

UK: BNFL MANAGEMENT CHANGES MOOTED
Article Abstract:
British Nuclear Fuels' (BNFL) senior management will undergo a complete realignment under plans to be revealed on 18 April 2000 which will include the appointment of an expert team of safety assessors. Details of the troubled UK-based group's plans were contained in a leaked report, Going Forward Safely, which is regarded as a reaction to criticism from the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate, the UK government safety watchdog. BNFL would not confirm whether up to 45 managers would be sacked, although it is known to have offered to enhance safety training and eradicate the presently fragmented management structure.
