UK: GENETIC TESTING BY INSURANCE COMPANIES
Article Abstract:
The UK government is to sanction the use of genetic testing by insurance companies to calculate the possibilities of a person inheriting Huntington's disease. It is thought that the move will result in insurance companies requesting the right to use DNA testing for other genetic diseases to assess premiums. However, concerns have been raised that the use of genetic testing will result in some people being unable to obtain insurance cover as well as put people off from having tests that may be of benefit to them.
