UK: PFIZER TESTS NEW VERSION OF VIAGRA
Article Abstract:
Pfizer is understood to be planning formal tests of a new version of Viagra, the anti-impotence treatment, which users would inhale and may offer an advantage over the conventional pill version in that takes less time to have an effect. Scientists at the pharmaceuticals group's Sandwich-based research laboratories in the UK submitted a patent around a year and a half ago describing a new type of sildenafil, the heart drug used to develop Viagra, The new version can be absorbed in water and subsequently may be used as a nasal spray.

UK: SOLUBLE CANNABIS TECHNIQUE DEVELOPED
Article Abstract:
Scientists at Aberdeen University have developed a technique that makes cannabis soluble so that it can be used in injections or sprays. The research could result in a drug being available on the NHS by 2005. Although the medical use of cannabis has been banned in the UK since 1971 many people suffering from multiple sclerosis claim the drug can help to reduce pain. However in the past doctors have opposed prescribing the drug because it had to be smoked, which carries a risk of cancer, or eaten, which is an unreliable method.

UK: RESEARCH INTO CANNABIS BASED MEDICATION
Article Abstract:
Scientists from Imperial College, London claim to be close to developing a new class of pain relieving drugs that are based on cannabis. Scientists are said to have found evidence that cannabinoids, an active ingredient in the cannabis plant, can act on the spinal cord as well as the brain. Drugs developed from these cannabinoids could be developed to target the spinal cord and reduce pain without affecting the brain and causing the 'high' usually associated with the drug.
