Shoppers to pay the price in plans for powerful food-standards agency
Article Abstract:
The Food Standards Agency planned by the UK government will be partly funded by charges to manufacturers for food licences. This is likely to lead to a rise in food prices as the food industry faces costs estimated at 200 million pounds sterling. The government plans that the agency, which will be created by 1999, will play a vital role in developing nutrition policy. In particular, it will assist in developing a definition of a healthy diet.
