UK: BP TARGETED IN PETROL PUMP BOYCOTT
Article Abstract:
The campaign to boycott petrol pumps in the UK in an attempt to force the government and oil companies to lower petrol prices is paying particular attention to petrol stations operated by BP. Campaigners hope that the boycotting of a major oil company such as BP will force the government to take action. BP argues that the campaign is misleading, claiming that oil companies have little influence over petrol prices, and that petrol station boycotts could lead to independent retailers that operate many of BP's stations to go out of business.

The price of palladium rose to record high levels on 12 December 2000 due to fears that Russia, the world's largest producer of the metal, is withholding supplies in order to boost profits. The price rose to US$ 940 per troy ounce, from US$ 915 the previous day. Palladium is mainly used by car manufacturers in catalysts to reduce gases from exhaust systems.
