UK: TUC PHONE LINE REVEALS RACISM IN WORKPLACES
Article Abstract:
A phone service operated by the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has revealed a significant degree of racist abuse and violence in UK workplaces. In five days the line received 439 calls from black and Asian employees, detailing instances of taunts, name-calling, physical attacks and even death threats. Many were left needing to take time off, and feeling depressed and suicidal. The TUC, which has itself been accused of institutional racism, has called on the government, employers and unions to act in partnership over the issue.
