UK: STORMS CUT OFF POWER SUPPLY
Article Abstract:
Yorkshire Power has reported that 130,000 homes were without electricity at the height of the storms sweeping Europe. Seeboard, the electricity board for Kent, East Sussex, Surrey and part of West Sussex said that 50,000 customers had been cut off, whilst 50,000 Southern Electric customers had been without power. There were 38,000 homes without electricity in Wales, but no cuts at all in Scotland. Engineers are working on the problems, which are thought to be worse in rural areas.

UK: NETA DATE PUT BACK AGAIN
Article Abstract:
Although the New Electricity Trading Arrangement (Neta) was due to be up and running on 21 November 2000, the electricity regulator Ofgem conceded on 11 October that it will be delayed until 31 January 2001 at the earliest. The extra delays will also lead to higher Neta costs, although the amount is not known. The system aims to reduce the cost of electricity and stop any operators manipulating the price of electricity.
