'UK first' deal that could set Europe at war
Article Abstract:
France and Germany have both reacted very negatively to the 7 billion pounds sterling takeover of GEC's Marconi defence electronics division by British Aerospace. Thomson CSF sought to convince GEC until the very last minute that it would be a more appropriate partner for Marconi than British Aerospace, but was unsuccessful in its efforts. There has been a particularly negative reaction in Germany, as it had seemed certain until recently that British Aerospace would merge with Daimler-Chrysler Aerospace, rather than with Marconi.

Mixed views have been expressed about how ScottishPower will fare in the US, where there is a very different regulatory regime.
