Mid-life crisis brigade take over Everest
Article Abstract:
It has become increasingly common for wealthy people to decide to climb Everest, regarding this as a life-enriching experience. Observers believe that this is a negative trend, as many of these people have no real interest in learning properly about Everest and have to be given a great deal of assistance by tour leaders. There is also a trend towards people trying to achieve a specific record, such as being the youngest or the oldest person to reach the summit. Considerable dangers arise because people want to reach the summit as quickly as possible, failing to take the time to acclimatize properly.
