US: ANTI-MISSILE TECHNOLOGY TO BE SHARED

The US has offered to share anti-missile technology with other civilised nations to calm fears of an arms race. President Clinton believes it would unethical not to share technology from its new National Missile Defence project with countries threatened by rogue states. The US sees most co-operations with European Nato allies but may also share information with third countries, including Russia. The system aims to destroy missiles in flight. GERMANY: RAYTHEON AND DIEHL IN ALLIANCE
Article Abstract:
US defence equipment manufacturer Raytheon has signed an alliance with Diehl of Germany to strengthen its ties in Europe and increase its chances of winning contracts in the region. Raytheon is currently fighting to win a missile contract from the UK, which it says will benefit 7,000 jobs in Europe, including over 3,000 in the UK. In addition, Raytheon has promised that European countries that order the missile will get a 35% share of the work. Most countries are waiting to see what the UK will order before they make their own commitments.

Powernet Telecom revealed an agreement with US-based Internet business, Cisco Systems, on 26 April 2000 which will entail the latter providing software enabling the former's Manchester operation to deal with in excess of 2mn Internet dial-up connections. UK-based telecoms network operator, Powernet, revealed that the investment by Cisco forms part of an expansion plan worth GB[pound] 150mn.
