US consumers can't save us from global recession for ever

There is still strong consumer confidence in the US, with spending levels remaining very high and saving levels very low, even among the less wealthy. Much of the strength of consumer confidence is attributable to rising share prices. High consumption in the US is likely to continue for some time to come, as Americans remain very self-confident. In contrast, the Japanese and the Germans are being very cautious, saving their money rather than spending it.
