Wal-Mart set to conquer Britain
Article Abstract:
Wal-Mart, the largest retailer in the world, is considering establishing a presence in the UK. It could be argued that the current business climate in the UK, where prices for car accessories, groceries, appliances and electronic goods are among the highest in Europe, will provide an ideal basis for Wal-Mart, which has thrived through high levels of efficiency and very competitive prices. However, it is uncertain whether Wal-Mart's methods would prove so successful in the UK, where land is scarce, planning permission is difficult to obtain and roads are congested.

Cook says alliance is ready to go in fighting
Article Abstract:
UK Foreign Secretary Robin Cook has indicated that Nato is now drawing up plans for the use of ground troops against the Serbs in Kosovo, Yugoslavia. It appears that advice from leading commanders and pressure from the UK have combined to persuade President Bill Clinton to lend his support to a ground invasion of Kosovo. Nato generals have stated that Kosovo will have to be captured by the end of Aug 1999 if the 800,000 ethnic Albanian refugees are to begin returning home in 1999, before winter starts.
