Article Abstract:
Summer schools started over a century ago for manual unskilled workers, unemployed and poor people, but they now provide a service for all ages, social classes and abilities. Most educational establishments are keen to offer these courses to get some income during the summer months. Study and activity holidays can be recreational, educational or a mixture. As an example, unaccompanied children can attend St Peter's School in Lympstone, Devon, England where they can canoe, rock climb, horse ride and wind surf for 245 or 145 pounds sterling a week depending on whether accommodation is required or not.

The Arsonist's favourite target
Article Abstract:
Schools head the list of buildings most likely to be fire damaged or vandalised, but there are methods of prevention. Recommendations from both the Government and Fire Protection Association include fencing, alarm systems, floodlighting and closed circuit television. It is also necessary to put security of buildings high on the financial priorities in school budgets. A victim of arson also recommends that each school has an inventory and that all records be fire protected or deposited away from the buildings.

How we achieved success without selection
Article Abstract:
A comprehensive school education can offer many advantages, and need not be a barrier to academic success. Children who attend comprehensive schools learn to mix with a wide range of different people, and there is often a tolerant atmosphere. In many cases, an individual teacher can be instrumental in encouraging a bright child to consider higher education, as there may be no general expectation of taking this route.
