We need just the right dose of fear
Article Abstract:
Mnay people have irrational fears about Aids as they are ignorant of the way the virus is transmitted. Far more has been spent on researching Aids than other serious illnesses. In 1988 it was predicted that 40,000 would suffer from Aids in the UK by 1993, but there are only 7,000. People are more concerned about unknown hazards and situations to which they are exposed involuntarily than known risks, such as smoking. Sexual behaviour has altered since 1983 because of fear of Aids. There are fewer incidences of other sexually transmitted diseases.

Blood lust in the clinic
Article Abstract:
Clinical vampirism is rare but some of its symptoms are found in psychiatric clinics. Sufferers have a compulsive interest in blood, are confused over personal identity and are unnaturally concerned with death. Most cultures have had legends about vampires. In the 19th century one in 200 people were likely to be buried prematurely. Normal biochemical change may have been taken for vampirism and the rare disease erythropoietic protoporphyrin may have been mistaken for it.

Profile of a sexual sadist
Article Abstract:
The FBI National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime holds data on psychiatric analysis of criminals, which is helpful to UK police investigating the serial killings of homosexuals in London, England. The theory is that the five London victims were killed by a sexual sadist. Psychiatrists' description of sadists' motivations will help create an offender profile of the London murderer.
