Why we won't turn off the taps
Article Abstract:
The privatisation of the UK's water industry has led to changes in attitudes to water supply and conservation. People were prepared to ensure that water was not wasted when it was publicly owned, but now feel entitled to use as much water as they want because they are paying high prices for it. Consumers resent the fact that they will soon have to have water meters installed, while the privatised water companies are wasting large volumes of water by failing to deal with leaking supply pipes.

Whose church is it anyway?
Article Abstract:
A letter in the Times allegedly from the Archbishop of York gives five reasons why the Church of England should not be disestablished. The Church of England does not uniquely represent the people. Those who occasionally use the Church should not be included with those who worship regularly. People of other religions are represented by the Church of England at present. The Church has been disestablished in Wales but this is irrelevant. The fifth reason concerns the Royal Family.

Suddenly staring defeat in the face
Article Abstract:
Some observers have expressed the view that the Bosnian Serbs are deliberately giving up certain towns and positions in the light of the advance of the Croats and Muslims in Bosnia. It could be that they feel that it is easier to suffer a military defeat than to have to face the humiliation of giving up territory in the course of negotiations. However, it is in fact very unlikely that the Bosnian Serbs would really willingly give up territory.
