What were we doing bombing Iraq?
Article Abstract:
It is clear that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has shown little concern for the plight of ordinary Iraqis or for international opinion. However, he cannot justifiably be regarded as guilty of all the crimes of which he has been accused by the US and the UK. It seems hard to accept that the UK and the US should decide to bomb Iraq while ignoring the fact that other Middle Eastern leaders have been guilty of the same crimes of which they have accused President Saddam. Furthermore, sanctions against Iraq have led to great suffering for ordinary Iraqis.

Hypocrisy and deceit: the essential ingredients for war
Article Abstract:
No progress was made towards bringing about peace in the Middle East in 1997. Indeed, the situation there became increasingly tense, and it is possible that war will break out there in 1998. The most significant negative development during 1997 was the decision by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to construct a further Jewish settlement on occupied Arab land. The Arab nations which had been allied with the US were shown to be impotent, and they suffered a strong sense of betrayal.

Farewell to democracy in Pakistan
Article Abstract:
Pakistan's military regime seems to be very firmly established, with military facilities spread across the country. It seems that the West is happy to allow this situation to continue, preferring it to a democratically elected government that may oppose US policies.
