When the feelgood factor can be bad news
Article Abstract:
The longer an investor holds shares, the greater the chance that the investment will outperform a similar investment in bonds or cash. Some experts believe that there is no justification for long-term investors to cut their holdings of shares, regardless of how buoyant the market seems. As long as the investor is prepared to take a long-term view, then investing in shares will always be worthwhile. However, investors will be disappointed if they continue to believe that the very high returns achieved since the early 1980s are the norm.
