Where investment outweighs trade in free markets
Article Abstract:
Economic developments in newly industrialising countries are no longer closely related to economic developments in industrial countries, according to research undertaken by the International Monetary Fund. There has been a significant change in the nature of trade, with economic slow-down in industrial countries no longer prompting economic problems in newly industrialising countries. There has been a strong rise in capital flows from North to South, and the rise in their value has become much greater than the rise in the value of trade for the same period.

Why global markets need to be open to free information flows
Article Abstract:
The most important lesson from the economic crisis in Asia is that governments must realize that failing to disclose information fully can bring economic inefficiencies. Modern economies rely on information, and information is vital to financial markets. Maximum disclosure of information is the best way to ensure that unexpected bad news does not spark off a crisis. It can also be argued that openness and transparency are vital to the political credibility of globalization.
