Who says slime doesn't pay?
Article Abstract:
Slugs can cause serious damage to crops, and this is especially true of the brown field slug. The black slug tends to live in gardens. Slugs like moisture and will breed at any time of the year. They eat after dark and may have three meals a night. Field slugs are initially male and then become female, while tiger slugs can be both male and female simultaneously. Ground beetles eat slugs, though larger slugs may be able to escape by secreting slime. A team from Newcastle University, England, is carrying out research on slugs.

Holy Grail of the tropics
Article Abstract:
It has proved very difficult to develop a vaccine against malaria, which kills around 3 million people each year. One of the key problems is the complex lifecycle of the Plasmodium parasite. However, some progress has been made at Leeds University, England, one of the few places in the world capable of producing the parasite under conditions replicating those found in sub-Saharan Africa. Researchers here are investigating a variety of methods to deliver the protein LSA-1, an antigen, as a vaccine.
