Whose death is it anyway?
Article Abstract:
It is very common in UK hospitals for medical staff to give patients the impression that they should try to manage without pain relief. Many doctors are reluctant to prescribe morphine, for example, and that can mean that many cancer patients die in great pain unnecessarily. People who are in chronic pain should have the right to choose whether to receive pain relief, and should not be made to feel that they have failed if they do need pain relief. It is also important that medical staff realize that giving additional pain relief will not precipitate a patient's death.

Drop dead, gorgeous
Article Abstract:
It has become common to claim that the top fashion models have some sort of appeal beyond just their appearance. Indeed, these models have become brand names in their own right, and have moved into areas such as writing and acting. However, models still have an air of unreality, and this is what is really fascinating about them. Ordinary people resent the fact that models earn so much money, but also want to look like them. Models remind ordinary people that it is not really enough to just be beautiful on the inside.

Who is responsible for producing this virtual election?
Article Abstract:
The dominant player in the UK general election campaign is the media. Politicians come some way behind the media, with voters even further behind. Voters do not seem to be able to express their opinions with any conviction, and are patronised by both the media and politicians. Media coverage of the campaign has now become so intense that voters are becoming overloaded and alienated. Any encounters between the media and voters or politicians and voters seem to lack spontaneity.
