Why has Europe turned a blind eye to the corruption that has poisoned a nation?
Article Abstract:
Western governments have largely chosen to ignore the widescale political corruption which is known to be taking place in Albania. This is because they failed to appreciate from an early stage the nature of the government of president Sali Berisha. They allowed themselves to be blinded by the achievements of Berisha's first two years in office, and believed that it was essential to secure stability in Albania. They chose to ignore the fact that most of the government's revenue was coming from criminal activity or artificial sources.
