Why the Web isn't delivering the goods
Article Abstract:
Some observers believe that Internet shopping will never become very firmly established. This is because accessing the Internet requires the consumer to invest in an expensive PC and because television-based online services are much easier to use than the Internet. The e-Christmas pilot Internet retail scheme was not successful in terms of the volume of goods sold, but those responsible for this initiative believe that valuable lessons have been learnt, especially with regard to multinational shopping.

Forget the shopping trolley, use a CD-Rom
Article Abstract:
FoodFerry has established a successful business in delivering food directly to customers' homes. It is now to expand its activities with a new hybrid CD-Rom and Internet-based service. Customers will use the CD-Rom to select items from virtual shelves, with the order then being placed online. Updates to the CD-Rom are downloaded as the order is uploaded. Customers are able to attach notes to individual items, and can therefore give detailed instructions about their preferences.
