Will Mr Straw let this report quietly gather dust on the shelf?
Article Abstract:
There are a number of reasons to fear that the Macpherson report into the police investigation of the racist murder of black teenager Stephen Lawrence will merely be put to one side and quietly forgotten. However, there are also reasons to believe that this report may have a significant impact. Home Secretary Jack Straw has shown that he is not frightened of police forces and that he is willing to impose measures to improve police accountability. He has also actively encouraged police forces to identify and eliminate racism.
