William Hague is leading his party into freedom (from government)
Article Abstract:
The UK Conservative party seems unlikely to become the party of government again in its present form. Party leader William Hague is right in his belief that, at present, radical anti-statism does not attract voters. However, the Conservative party cannot get away from the fact that its stewardship of public services when it was in government was a genuine disaster. Furthermore, the party will not be able to break with the past until it is willing to abandon its hostility towards Europe.

Is business success really created on the school playing fields?
Article Abstract:
The UK government is planning changes in the national curriculum that will mean that competitive team sports are no longer compulsory for pupils aged between 14 and 16. This shift away from the strangely exaggerated role of sports in UK schools is to be welcomed. It is now time to abandon the widely-held view that team sports foster skills that will be valuable in later life, such as fairness and sharing responsibility. It is most unlikely that any research will be able to prove that participation in school sports really encourages successful business practice.
