Yesterday's hopeful young artists have arrived ...
Article Abstract:
Art galleries in London, England, are generating very strong demand for contemporary art. Indeed, the work of many young artists, both from the UK and abroad, is now exceeding gallery prices at auction. If this situation persists, gallery prices are likely to rise, and a price spiral could emerge. This could ultimately prove damaging to the market for modern artwork. Another significant development is a reduction in the amount of time it takes for an artwork purchased new from a gallery to be sold at a profit at auction.

A new dawn for Modern Brit Art?
Article Abstract:
There are indications that a gradual recovery is taking place in the market for Modern British paintings. Dealers are still short of funds, and are generally being outbid by private buyers. These buyers, who tend to prefer adventurous figuratives to the Impressionist style, are mainly not speculators, and this means that the market has a certain degree of stability. It is worth looking at less well known members of the Modern British school, such as Frederick Gore and Mary Fedden.

Art? I wouldn't have it in the house
Article Abstract:
Art collector Paul Wilson has no desire to possess art. He has collected 218 artworks by 100 living British artists, but does not display these in his own home. Instead, they are stored by the artists or by the Ferens Art Gallery in Hull, England. He is keen for people to learn to value their ability to respond to art, rather than simply being told how they should respond. He feels that art collectors should be well informed and have a passion for art.
