Zaire aid fails to reach lost and hungry
Article Abstract:
International aid agencies report that they are experiencing difficulties in persuading the Zairean government to allow them to transport desperately-need supplies to the large number of refugees in the country. The government fears that supplying food aid and other assistance will make the refugee problem permanent. It wants the refugees to return to Rwanda, rather than move further into Zaire. Further problems are being caused by the lack of clear information about the location of refugees.

15-mile river of refugees flees Zaire fighting
Article Abstract:
Many of the Hutus who fled into eastern Zaire because they feared reprisals for the genocide which killed 500,000 Tutsis in 1994 are now moving again. Some are fleeing further into Zaire, while others are moving towards Rwanda. Around 200,000 Rwandan refugees are currently on the roads, following the 300,000 Burundian Hutus and Rwandans who have already left their camps. Observers believe that the exodus of Rwandan Hutus has been prompted by an attack from inside Rwanda.

Zaire accuses Rwanda of supporting rebels
Article Abstract:
The Zairean army and rebels from the Banyamulenge group are currently clashing around the eastern Zairean town of Bukavu. According to the Zairean government, the rebels are being supported by the Tutsi-dominated Rwandan regime, a claim which has been strongly denied. Zairean troops and civilians have been looting and burning warehouses operated by relief agencies in Bukavu, and reports indicate that the situation there is reaching crisis point.
