A low-pollution engine solution: clean-burning, sparkless-ignition auto engines may offer the best chance of meeting new exhaust emissions standards
Article Abstract:
The automobile industry is developing a clean-burning, sparkless-ignition engine that operates on homogeneous-charge compression-ignition combustion. The method of operation is based on concepts found in both diesel and gasoline engines. The research and development of the engine are described.

Lean gene machine
Article Abstract:
A study reveals that in hostile habitat where organisms have to operate extremely efficiently DNA is optimized, shaving the genome down to the minimum requirement to create and develop life. An oceanic bacterium, Pelagibacter ubique has the smallest self-replicating cells and almost no wasted DNA.

Bouncy proteins
Article Abstract:
An ultraenergy-effecient elastic protein, called resilin, that enables fleas to make their leaps, flies to flap their wings and cicadas to sing their songs, can be used as an artificial version that could be used in biomedical or industrial application as new stents, heart valves, spinal-disk implants, nanohinges. This protein is biodegradable and requires modifications to be used in wet environments as in the body and hence work out for alternatives to water to be required to maintain resilin's elasticity in dry conditions is proved.
