A new theory of turbulence causes a stir among experts
Article Abstract:
Mathematicians Gregory Barenblatt and Alexandre Chorin claim a key tenet of turbulence theory, the universal logarithmic law of the wall, is off by as much as 65%. Revision of the formula could force the redesign of structures subject to high turbulence, such as pipelines and offshore platforms.
