Prominent economists met at the Copenhagen Consensus in May 2004 for finding ways to tackle global problems. They recommended donation of basic medical aid to poor countries by the rich nations for alleviation of malnutrition, donating aid for preventing AIDS in Africa and Asia and implementation of small-scale water technologies and community water supplies in impoverished countries.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that technology such as DVD players, touch-screen maps and other doodads report a 1.5 million crashes every year due to inattentive drivers. Thus, the European Union has launched a four-year, 12.5 million pounds sterling project to develop industry wide standards for adaptive driver-vehicle interfaces by 2008.
