Another step toward a diamond-beater
Article Abstract:
Yip-Wah Chen has created a material that may contain a crystalline form of carbon nitride computer models predicted would be harder than diamond. A titanium nitride lattice of the desired structure coaxed the carbon nitride into the unnatural form. The composite coating is almost as hard as diamond.

Commotion over E. coli project
Article Abstract:
Many researchers are angry that the National Center for Human Genome Research (NHCGR) decided not to renew Frederick Blattner's funding for sequencing the genome of E. coli. NHCGR believes Blattner's research is progressing too slowly. His supporters claim he and his team are careful.
