Aqueous phase flourescence quenching technique for measuring naphthalene partition coefficients in nonionic surfactant micelles
Article Abstract:
A new quenching technique based on the use of flourescence intensity data was developed to determine the coefficient for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) solutions. The technique measured the amount of PAH by measuring flourescence of the solution based on floruophore values and flourescense intensity data gathered during tests. One advantage of the method over other quenching techniques is its ability to measure both saturated and non-saturated aqueous solutions and its sensitivity to changes in the partition coefficient.

Monitoring ambient and source pollutants
Article Abstract:
The OPSIS continuous monitoring system from ABB Environmental Services can help industries meet pollutant emissions regulations. The OPSIS system provides high speed, low-cost continuous reporting of emissions. The system has a low error rate and is user-friendly. The monitor measures over 20 specific gaseous elements in a beam between its transmitter and receiver.

3-D digital imaging; revealing the location, depth, and concentration of subsurface pollutants
Article Abstract:
Three-dimensional digital imaging (TDDI) can be used both to locate underground pollutants and to determine the pollutants' depth and concentration. TDDI generates color images of subsurface conditions. These images contain data that previously would have taken pages of tables and maps. Data obtained using TDDI at a site near Aiken, SC, are explained.
