Artificial blood quickens: several short-term substitutes approach final clinical trials
Article Abstract:
At least six firms are developing so-called blood substitutes, including protein solutions extracted from cow's blood, a solution similar to Teflon and genetically engineered solutions. The substitutes cannot fight infection or promote clotting, but they stay fresh longer than blood.

A short stroll through the solar system

Issues concerning the three-hour tour through the solar system offered by the Pasadena Jet Propulsion Laboratory in the United States are discussed. Particular attention is given to descriptions of the tour and to models of spacecrafts.

Blue films: cheap new coatings trap solar energy as color

Zirconium phosphonate viologen chloride (ZPVC) turns blue when it absorbs and stores ultraviolet light energy. Devices made of ZPVC could work as solar-powered catalysts and might provide an alternative to silicon solar cells.
