Astronomers turn new eyes on the cosmic ray sky
Article Abstract:
Researchers are using powerful ray detectors to study the highly energetic behavior of cosmic rays. Understanding the energy spectrum, composition and arrival spectrum of cosmic rays will provide a more complete picture of fundamental astrophysics.

Misfolding the way to disease; amyloid diseases such as Alzheimer's may result when proteins fold up incorrectly, causing them to aggregate and deposit abnormally in or around cells
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that amyloid diseases occur when proteins stop folding normally. Instead, they fold partially and then stick to one another and assemble into insoluble fibril aggregates, which build up and can eventually kill.

Particle hunters bag two trophies - and share a third

Frederick Reines and Martin Perl won the 1995 Nobel Prize in physics for their work in discovering leptons. Reines discovered the neutrino in 1956, and Perl found the tau particle in the 1960s.
