Awards honor the growing greening of chemistry
Article Abstract:
The National Academy of Sciences presented several Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards to several institutions. Awards went to a new bleaching technology, elimination of chromium waste generated from drug production, a substitute for waste biomass for petroleum products as feedstock and an insecticide that does not leach or persist in the environment.

DNA chip technology could revolutionize water testing

Scientists in the United States and Europe are conducting tests on a new water testing technology using "DNA chips". It is able to identify all the pathogens present in water instead of it being identified separately. Getting the sulfur out of diesel fuel
Article Abstract:
The Environmental Protection Agency is under pressure to enforce the reduction of sulfur in diesel fuel, as regular gasoline will reduce its sulfur content by 90% this coming December 2000.
