Behind the Headlines of Endostatin's Ups and Downs
Article Abstract:
Melinda Hollingshead of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) is angry with the media and its extremes in reporting the endostatin drug story. Endostatin was first heralded as tumor-shrinking drug after experiments at Boston's Children Holspital. The NCI, however, was unable to duplicate the results initially, although subsequent experiments have offered more hope. Hollingshead emphasizes the complexity of the research, and objects to simplifications.

The Scientific Challenge of Hepatitis C
Article Abstract:
The rates of liver disease are increasing because of the Hepatitus C virus (HCV) which infects 170 million people worldwide. HCV infections number four times as many as HIV, but the scientific community is not responding as they are with HIV. A recent international conference on AIDS attracted 10,000 scientists. A four-day conference on Hepatitis C attracted only 775 researchers.

The March of Paradigms
Article Abstract:
The term 'new paradigm' is used increasingly in scientific literature, and many researchers believe its use should be more restricted. An analysis of scientific papers by the Institute for Scientific Information found that papers with the term in their titles were cited infrequently in other publications.
