Time is money: innovative contracting methods in highway construction
Article Abstract:
The A + B plus incentive/disincentive (I/D) contracting method is a cost-effective and time-saving contracting technique that can be utilized in the rehabilitation or construction of bridges. The contracting method was applied in the rebuilding of the Americana Bridge in Boise River, ID. The daily cost of half bridge closure was estimated before the selection of bidders. The selection process was based on the contract duration proposed by the contractors plus the dollar amount of the bid. The nature of the contract produced a win/win situation for the contractor and the highway builder.

Construction claims and disputes: causes and cost/time overruns
Article Abstract:
The study on construction claims and contract disputes in western Canada should be of interest to building owners and government agencies in the area. However, the researchers should also have studied the reasons behind the construction delays and cost overruns. They should have also included the total construction costs of all the projects studied together with the associated cost overruns and delays. The researchers make it appear that all construction projects in that region have experienced large cost overruns and significant delays.
