Navigational range lights: effect of stimulus configuration on alignment accuracy
Article Abstract:
Range lights used in nautical navigation involve the visual determination of the vertical alignment of two points of light, so that the center of the channel can be found. Two experiments demonstrate that this vernier alignment task is more accurate if illuminated linear stimuli are used as range lights. The average reduction of error was 69.4 percent, when linear stimuli was used over standard point stimuli, for navigational alignments when one-half nautical mile from the range lights.

Branching out into new polymer markets
Article Abstract:
Researchers led by Jean Frechet have developed a commercially promising process for producing the branched polymers called dendrimers. The method uses a one-step process to activate a vinyl monomer and is less expensive that previously used multi-step processes.
