Broad-based environmental life-cycle assessment
Article Abstract:
Environmental impacts related to a specific product can be described by the utilization of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) technique. The LCA is a holistic approach that analyzes a particular product's entire system. Raw materials acquisition, manufacturing, use/reuse/maintenance and recycle/ waste management are the product stages involved in the process. The EPA is encouraging the utilization of LCA in the manufacturing of a new product or for the upgrading of present product lines.

Matrix approaches to abridged life cycle assessment
Article Abstract:
An abridged life cycle assessment (LCA) matrix is tested to determine its effectiveness with regard to complex manufactured products or industrial manufacturing processes. Application of the abridged LCA matrix to data on generic automobiles of the 1950s and 1960s showed that the matrix scoring system is an effective and direct method for comparing the available options. Target plots are suggested for improving the assessment rating.
