Characterization of polychlorinated biphenyl isomers in Sovol and Trichlorodiphenyl formulations by high-resolution gas chromatography with electron capture detection and high-resolution gas chromatography-mass spectrometry techniques
Article Abstract:
Research was done at the Technical Research Centre of Finland on the composition of Sovol and Trichlorodiphenyl, two polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) formulations. Sovol was developed in the Soviet Union in 1934 and used until environmental and health concerns caused a reduction in both production and consumption. Trichlorodiphenyl was produced in the Soviet Union from the 1960s through the 1980s. The research used high-resolution gas chromatography with electron capture detection and mass spectrometry techniques to determine the character of PCB isomers in the two compounds.

Theoretical analysis of a method for in situ decontamination of soil containing 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin
Article Abstract:
The development of a potential in situ cleanup process for soil with 2,3,7,8- tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) is discussed. Two sets of equations were used to describe the fluid flow, TCDD movement and photodegradation. A resulting model was developed which considers convective and diffusive transport of the TCDD. The accuracy of the analysis for portraying the physical situation of the process was demonstrated.
