Chess is too easy
Article Abstract:
Deep Blue's victory over Gary Kasparov has lent support to the notion that machines will one day surpass man in creativity and thinking. However, chess as played by a computer is easy as long as an algorithm that studies the consequences of each move guides the machine. But the true test of machines dominating man would be in literature. Computers would fail miserably in creating literature, even short stories. Machines cannot experience or be aware of of what is going on in a story even if they can do very fast computations. Experts say it is impossible to produce conscious machines or computers.

How to make a robot smile
Article Abstract:
A team of researchers at the Science University of Tokyo led by professor Fumio Hara successfully created an aluminum female robot head that could recognize and express six kinds of facial expressions. The robot is controlled by a computer program which combines action units for every particular expression. Their main goal is to produce a generation of robots that could empathize with people. This could be very helpful for factory workers who have to work alongside robots, and for autistic children who have communication disorders.
