China's air pollution risks
Article Abstract:
Air pollution-related diseases pose the biggest risks to China's population. Air pollution accounts for more than 1 million deaths/year in China, with an individual mortality rate that is 7-10 times greater than the US. The most hazardous pollutants to public health are sulfur dioxide, particulate matter and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. China's indoor pollution problems are more severe than its urban air quality problems. This is due to the use of coal- or biomass-fueled stoves in most households.
