Citizens get involved in cleaning up Fernald
Article Abstract:
Citizens' participation in the decision making pertaining to the cleanup of the US Department of Energy's (DOE) facility at Fernald, OH, is imperative as it involves the well-being of the people. The Fernald Citizens Task Force forwards specific cleanup levels for uranium contamination in the soil and groundwater. The task force also recommends the transportation of about 800,000 cubic yards of waste. Meeting the safety concerns of stakeholders has been given top priority by the task force. The task force suggests the potential use of the site for recreational and industrial purposes.
