Bioavailability to earthworms of aged DDT, DDE, DDD, and dieldrin in soil
Article Abstract:
Researchers from Cornell University, New York conducted a study on the bioavailability of the pesticides DDT, DDE, DDD in soil treated with DDT 49 years earlier. Soil samples taken from the earthworm Eisenia foetida were analyzed for the presence of the persistent pesticides.

Combined effect of sequestration and bioremediation in reducing the bioavailability of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in soil
Article Abstract:
Investigations into the bioavailability of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) to different bioremediation methods showed that aging significantly reduces the bioavailability of such compounds to bioremediation organisms. Aging is effected by letting the PAH compounds stand in the soil from 140 to 203 days. Evidence is seen in terms of the presence of PAH compounds in the tissues of bioremediation organisms.
