Chromium (VI) reduction by hydrogen sulfide in aqueous media: stoichiometry and kinetics
Article Abstract:
Many federal and industrial sites in the United States have been contaminated by chromium because of improper disposals and accidental leakages. Remediation is often called for since some chromium chemicals have been found to be carcinogenic and toxic. The following experiment investigates the reaction stoichioemetry, mechanism and kinetics for chromium (VI) reduction by hydrogen sulfide in the aqueous phase.

Binding of pyrene to aquatic and commercial humic substances: the role of molecular weight and aromaticity
Article Abstract:
The use of pyrene in the analysis of aromatic compounds' binding ability with humic substances determined that the physicochemical properties of both are controlling factors in the speciation of nonpolar organic contaminants in natural aquatic environments. The binding ability of aquatic humic substances to pyrene appears to depend upon their aromaticity, molecular weights and molar absorptivities at 280 nm. However, the binding of pyrene with commercial humic acid did not seem to be dependent on such properties.
