Composite sketch
Article Abstract:
Fiber-reinforced-plastic materials from the aerospace and military sectors are excellent materials for the construction of highway, bridge and other transportation related projects. These types of composite materials possess corrosion resistance, high strength, long fatigue life, high durability and a lower cost per pound compared to the existing construction materials. These materials are also easy to transport, handle and use. The bridges made by these materials are very light allowing for transportation after construction to remote sites. However, a lack of hard data is making their acceptance by states difficult.
