Computer-aided concrete-placement optimization
Article Abstract:
A new method of analyzing the cost effectiveness of concrete placement considers five factors. These factors are the concrete mixes, batching temperatures, formwork types, curing and insulation types and penalties for delays in formwork, curing and insulation. However, the inclusion of the penalties may be incorrect. The delay in concreting does not mean that the project will not be completed on time. Delays in project completion can only be forecasted through critical path analysis. There are even construction projects, such as industrial warehouses, which do not consider concreting to be a crucial phase.

Analysis of earth-moving systems using discrete-event simulation
Article Abstract:
S.D. Smith et al. discussed the development and possible application of simulation models for the construction industry. However, they were not able to offer the practicing engineer a better analysis model compared to the usual deterministic model. They argue that deterministic models cannot be applied for the construction industry because the processes are too complicated. However, practicing engineers still prefer deterministic models because they are easy to comprehend and relate to physical features.
