Strategies for remediation managers
Article Abstract:
Remediation managers should communicate with regulatory agencies, focus on land use objectives, use new technologies, handle remediation as a business, and learn from their experiences. These strategies are necessary as the environmental industry in the US has shifted its focus from profits to value-based projects. With the passage of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act and creation of Superfund, almost 40-60% of the environmental funds go to procedures and litigations.

Removing incentives for conflict
Article Abstract:
The interaction between government regulatory agencies and industry is a necessary requirement for the success of the current regulatory framework for hazardous waste management and contaminated-site remediation activities. However, negative perceptions between the two groups foster an adversarial relationship. Appropriate changes involving the reevaluation and redefinition of the rules of engagement between regulators and industry are needed in order to place the two groups on a more equal footing.

Unintended consequences
Article Abstract:
The Clean Air Act and other environmental regulations were made in good faith yet they can have unintended consequences particularly in terms of compromising road safety improvement programs. This is reflected in the case of Mineral Springs Road located in an undisclosed state. Traffic volume on the road has increased to well over 20,000 vehicles daily. The county where the road is located cannot implement a crucial road safety improvement program because of certain provisions in the Clean Air Act.
